Abstract
This paper investigates the actual usage of the Japanese sentence-final particle ne as used by native speakers of Japanese in the I-JAS corpus. Based on usage patterns discussed in previous studies, the analysis focuses on whether ne is essential or optional, the amount of shared information between speaker and listener, and intonation. Furthermore, subcategories were added to refine the classification of ne usage. A key feature of this study's classification is the subdivision and addition of the [Reconfirmation] category to the existing categories of [Confirmation Request] and [Self-Confirmation]. It also subdivides the [Agreement Expression] category into four types and clarifies that in the [Listener-Oriented] category, there are cases where ne is connected with sentence structures other than noda. Moreover, the study examines the relationship between the function of ne and its syntactic connection, confirming a tendency for certain connection forms to be predominantly used with specific functions.
