言いさしのくり返し発話に関する考察 - 言い切りのくり返し発話との比較を中心に -

本研究では、日本語母語話者の談話資料を対象に言いさしのくり返し発話と言い切りのくり返し発話を取り上げ、使用様相と機能を中心に分析を行った。 分析の結果、言いさしと言い切りのくり返し発話の出現度を見ると、言いさしが全体の約30％、言い切りが約70％見られ、言い切りのくり返し発話が多く見られることがわかった。それぞれのくり返し発話を機能別に見ると、言いさしのくり返し発話は「情報提示」「反論」「間つなぎ」が特徴として観察された。「情報提示」は相手がもっている不確かな情報に対する信頼度を上げる、また、言い切るようなニュアンスを与えない話し手の発話理由、「反論」は、いくつかの解釈ができる「逃げ道」を聞き手に与えることで責任を回避したい話し手の意図、「間つなぎ」は話を途切らせないように相手にリズムやテンポを合わせることにより円滑な談話展開に繋げているといえる。 言い切りのくり返し発話は「強調」「感情ㆍ思考」「情報提示」が特徴として見られ、「強調」は、聞き手の先行発話をくり返すだけでなく、くり返した語彙や文節を連続的に発話し、強調機能をさらに強める発話が特徴として観察された。「感情ㆍ思考」は肯定/否定的な感情、または疑問に対する共有が特徴として見られた。「情報提示」は敢えて聞かれた内容をくり返すことにより、情報の確かさㆍ不確かさを同時に確認するという特徴が見られた。
Abstract
The present study investigates the usages and functions of repeated suspended- clause utterances and repeated conclusive-clause utterances observed in the discourse materials of Japanese native speakers. The analysis reveals that the repeated suspended-clause utterances account for about 30% and the repeated conclusive-clause utterances account for about 70%; that is, the repeated conclusive-clause utterances were more frequently attested. Function-wise, the repeated suspended-clause uttearnces are characterised as the “presentation of information,” the “counterargument,” and the “linker.” The “presentation of information” elevates the reliability of addressee’s uncertain information or refers to the reason for producing an utterance that avoids an affirmation, the “counterargument” refers to a speaker’s intention that she does not take responsibility by giving the hearer an interpretational indeterminacy, and the “linker” refers to the ways in which a speaker comes into alignment with the hearer so that the discourse runs smoothly. The repeated conclusive-clause utterances are characterised as the “emphasis,” the “emotion, thought,” and the “presentation of information.” In the “emphasis” type, a speaker not only repeats the preceding utterance but also successively utters the repeated words or phrases in order to amplify the emphasis function. The “emotion, thought” is characterised as positive/negative emotions or sharing of enquired content. In the “presentation of information” type, a speaker repeats what she was asked in order to confirm the certainty and uncertainty of information at a time.
