Abstract

This study aimed to investigate the effects of online reading motivation and strategy level on print reading achievement of second-year high school students. The result shows that first, the students’ online reading motivation and strategy levels were slightly positive, and only online reading strategy had a significant effect on reading achievement. In addition, when the differences in online reading motivation and strategy response results were compared according to reading achievement levels and gender, there was a significant gender difference (male > female) in online reading motivation, and a significant difference in achievement groups (higher > lower) in terms of online reading strategy. Based on the results, several educational implications were discussed. First, it is necessary to develop a teaching and learning method that can lead to reading strategy learning and ultimately reading achievement through online reading activities. Next, male students have a tendency to perceive online reading activities positively. Thus, it would be necessary to utilize it well in teaching and learning while making sure this tendency gets also reflected.
