본 연구는 학문 목적 한국어 학습자들이 강의를 담당하는 교수에게 작성한 요청 이메일에서 담화 구조별로 드러나는 전략 사용의 발달 양상을 분석하였다. 이에 학문 맥락임을 고려한 요청 이메일의 담화 구조를 크게 도입-본 요청-마무리 단계로 구성하고, 동일 주제로 한국인이 작성한 이메일 자료에서 유의미한 요청 담화 전략을 유형화하여 분석의 기초를 마련하였다. 이를 토대로 학습자가 한국 대학 생활 초기에 작성한 요청 이메일과 후기에 작성한 이메일에서 드러나는 전략을 학문 맥락 요청 이메일의 담화 구조에 맞추어 분석하였다. 그 결과 학습자들이 한국의 대학에서 생활하며 여러 전략을 학습했으나 여전히 담화 참여자의 관계 및 담화 구조에 알맞은 전략적 표현과 형식 측면에 있어 모어 화자와 차이를 보였다. 이러한 결과는 이메일 담화의 문화적 관습 및 쓰기 교육의 필요성을 보여주며, 나아가 적절성에 중점을 둔 담화 교육의 필요성을 시사하는 바이다.
Abstract
This study aimed to analyze the developmental aspects of using pragmatic moves in the structure of request emails written by learners of Korean for Academic Purpose. First of all, discourse structure of request emails in an academic context was categorized into three major parts: Opening, Main Request, and Closing. As a foundation for analysis various types of pragmatic moves for requesting were identified and classified, based on request emails written by native Korean speakers on the same topic. Based on this framework, the moves used in request emails by learners in the early stage of their university life in Korea were compared to those in emails in the later stage, aligning them with the discourse structure of academic request emails. The result showed that even though the learners had learned various conventional expressions and moves, there still were differences from the native writers especially in the use of expressions which were appropriate given the relationship to the receiver in each part of the discourse structure. The findings highlighted the influence of cultural conventions in Korean email discourse and the necessity of education on ‘appropriateness’ regarding email writing. Furthermore, the study indicated the need for discourse-based Korean education taking the features of academic context into account.
