Abstract
The purpose of this study is to examine Regeski’s concepts of praxis that he asserted from 1990s, to study and compare those in the second edition of Music Matters by Elliott and Silverman to assume how they were influenced from Regelsky. To this end, this study reviewed Regelski’s articles between 1998 and 2012, and looked into the second edition of Music Matters. Regelski approached the con- cept of praxis through the perspectives of Aristotle, critical theory, and critical pedagogy. He also ar- gued that music and music education are socially constructed forms of praxis, pursuing the better- ment of the lives of individuals and communities. This study compared these views of Regleski with those in Music Matters (2nd ed.), focusing on the claims of the ubiquity of music, the social nature of music, the acceptance of perspectives from critical theory, the concept and ethics of praxis, the importance of critiques and reflections, the emphasis on diversity of music, and music curricu- lum-as-practicum.
