Abstract
The purpose of this study is to explore the meaning of change in the educational aim of praxial music education and the significance of the change. David Elliott, who had come to be at the center of praxial music education philosophy after the publication of Music Matters in 1995, published the second revised version of Music Matters in collaboration with his wife M. Silverman in 2015. Based on interdisciplinary approach involving advanced research from neuroscience, emotion research, psychology and biology, Music Matters 2 changes internally and externally ‘the development of musicianship through musicing’, which has been the aim of the existing praxial music education. In this context, the present researcher intends to explore how the goal of praxial music education changed in Music Matter 2, and what the change implies. In conclusion, praxial music education aims to cultivate artistic citizenship on the basis of musical emotion, and expands the value of music education externally by means of education through music, unlike aesthetic (synergistic) music education that pursues knowing within music.
