사회자본의 규범적 기능 탐색: 대학생의 강의태도에 대한 영향을 중심으로

본 연구에서는 「한국교육종단연구 2005」의 7차(2011년), 8차(2012년), 9차(2014년) 데이터를 활용하여 대학생활을 통해 형성하는 사회자본의 수평적, 수직적 측면인 교수 및 교우와의 관계가 대학생들의 부정적 강의태도에 어떠한 영향을 주는지를 종단적으로 살펴보았다. 이를 통해 사회자본의 규범적 기능을 실증적으로 탐색하여 사회자본 이론의 발전에 기여하고자 하였다. 연구 목적을 달성하기 위해 4년제 대학에 재학 중인 1,170명의 종단 자료를 AMOS 18.0 프로그램을 활용한 잠재성장모형 사용하여 분석하였다. 분석결과 초기 성인기 대학생활을 통해 형성하는 사회자본은 부정적 강의태도의 초기 형성과 변화에 유의미한 영향을 미치는 것으로 나타났다. 그러나 관계의 수직적 측면과 수평적 측면의 효과는 상반되었는데, 먼저 수직적 측면에서 신입생 시기의 교수와의 교류는 부정적 강의태도의 초기치에 유의미한 부적인 영향을 미치는 것으로 밝혀졌다. 이는 신입생 시기에 교수와 맺는 관계가 대학 1학년생의 부정적 강의태도를 예방ㆍ개선하는데 긍정적으로 기능할 수 있다는 가능성을 시사한다. 반면, 수평적 관계에서 교우와의 교류는 부정적 강의태도에 정적인 영향을 미치는 것으로 나타났다. 이는 대학 신입생 시기 교우와의 교류가 부정적인 강의태도를 갖게 되는 것과 어느 정도 관련성이 있음을 짐작하게 한다. 이로써 수직적 관계를 통한 사회자본의 규범적 기능 및 수평적 관계 내 규범수준의 하락 효과를 실증적 자료를 통해 확인할 수 있었다. 본 연구의 분석 결과에 터하여 대학생의 학습경험 개선과 건강한 인성 발달을 위해 교수와 관계 증진 및 교우 간 관계의 질 개선을 위한 다양한 정책적 지원 마련이 필요함을 제언하였다.
Abstract
This study intends to explore the function of vertical and horizontal aspects of social capital that college students accumulate within the campus, particularly related to students’ academic behavior longitudinally. In addition, the function of social capital as norms is examined empirically using a nationally representative data set to contribute the development of the theory. The 7th and 8th year data from the Korean Educational Longitudinal Study 2005(KELS 2005) is analyzed adopting Latent Growth Curve Model utilizing AMOS 18.0 program. The result shows that college students’ academic misbehavior has individual differences and the differences sustain longitudinally. The social capital that college students accumulate in the freshmen year has meaningful effect on the level of their academic misbehaviors. The vertical aspect of the social capital, which is the relationship between students and faculty members, has positive effect, whereas the horizontal aspect of social capital, which is the relationship among students, has negative effect. The result of this study suggests the importance of facilitating rich relationship between students and faculty members in the early year of college, and improving the quality of relationships among students.
