초록

Liberation period of Korea is a problematic period in Korean literary history. Unexpected and sudden liberation fomented unparalleled social disorder, following vacuum period at the end of Japanese imperialism, liberation brought fervent literary aspiration, and there was severe ideological conflicts involved in politics. All these social phenomenon suggest that liberation period is a very sensitive period in terms of politics and also literary history of Korea. Great social upheaval usually forces people to take actions. Therefore, lots of people decided to write poems as a way of urging to take actions and as a way of speech during the liberation period. After liberation, to make a clean break from vestiges of Japanese imperialism and also from feudal age and to build up a democratized country became very important to Korean people. This was a matter of the nation and life rather than of literature and a matter taking precedence over ideology. The process of overcoming these matters was not different from that of recovering the subject. Also, after liberation, recovering Korean language, a mother tongue was an important and urgent matter in recovering the identity of Korean and Korean people. The process of recovering the identity through Korean language begins with an attempt to grant Korean language the position of a national language of Korean. Purification of Korean language was placed at the starting point of this attempt. While the draft for unified spelling system was related to unifying or standardizing Korean language, purification of Korean language was related to literary creation. Paying attention to dynamic nature and resistance represented poems of liberation period, this article examined the struggles of freeing from colonialization revealed in works of liberation period and studied the process of recovering the subject through language. For this goal, this article also examined foreign word and dialect in poems of liberation period laying stress on the connection to purification movement of Korean language and how this movement was diverged and unified from the period before liberation.
