Abstract

This paper is aimed to identify the problem of awareness about 'poetry' and 'poet' appeared in the poetry of the liberation period. It is to explore the self-reflection character of the poet projected in the poems of Liberation period for poem in which the meta-characteristics is revealed. This question is valid because the so-called Liberation period is special time in modern history of Korea. Liberation period is just a little more than three years only, but it was the period of problem not only in modern history Korea but also even in the history of Korean literature. To check what recognition had the poets of Liberation period about the 'poetry' and their identity would be another way to understand poetry of the Liberation period. Another problem in this paper is to look over the relationship between the consciousness about poetry (poets) and political character of poets in the liberation period. For the poets of the liberation period it was considered as the problem of obligation that the poetry (poets) should contribute to the political changes (making the country) beyond the possibility that they could do it. It was the matter of steadfast faith. Due to their rigidness in the time of strong political magnetic field named as the liberation period the question of 'What is poetry' or 'what is the poet' had been replaced by the question of 'What should be poetry' or 'What should be the poet'. For this discussion, in chapter 2 would be investigated writing poems, poems reflecting the poet's self, and poems revealing a kind of meta-characters, appeared in the poetry of the liberation period. In chapter 3 the poets' appearances as petit-bourgeois standing in front of the wall of life and the way how they was overcoming the petit-bourgeois character, in chapter 4, the face of the poet which had transformed into warriors on the road of reality reformation will be discussed.
