Abstract

In this thesis the writer considered on the life of a poet and the poetic responce as the result. He focused on Ju Yo-han, because he was a leader in the history of Korean modern poetry. When we say that Lyric is the most private genre, a record of momentary emotion, we can not expect an epic connection in the poems. But if the individual works are responses of the outlook on the world of one poet, there will be a durability which passes through his whole life. The poems of Ju Yo-han are very various, so they seems separately each other. But his every works were possible on the Idealism. He lived dualistic life, one is a pure literary living, another is a vulgar living. His poetic possibility was on the Idealism far from actual reality. At the latter period, he emphasized the popular art, but the concept stayed on the Folk. So there was not the colonial realism. He produced 'Chae-suk-jang' - which responsed the actual reality - but such attempt could not continued. Because there was too big difference between the idel life and the real life which he recognized. After all we can conclude that his literary works were possible on the ground of abstract Idealism. We could see the dual life of a colonial intellectual and the literary response in the life of Ju Yo-han, but on the other hand it is not individual problem, it is a misery of the history of Korean modern literature.
