Abstract
This study explores the concept and aesthetic potential of “slow dramaturgy,” which has emerged as a reaction to the accelerated pace of life in the era of neoliberalism, with a focus on The Anthropocene Project (2025). Slow dramaturgy is a theatrical aesthetic that reconstructs sensory perception through slow temporality and prompts audience reflection and cognitive transformation through the use of real experiences as artistic material. In particular, The Anthropocene Project employs an immersive theatre format that juxtaposes a found space, a public park, with a traditional theater space, thereby blurring the boundaries between audience, actors, and citizens and evoking a sense of co-presence that redefines the relationship between human and non-human other. The analysis reveals the potential of slow dramaturgy to aesthetically render and bring awareness to environmental and ecological crises that remain obscured by anthropocentrism and instrumental reason. Specifically, the use of recycled objects throughout the production process, the activation of found spaces, and the participatory engagement of the audience serve as effective manifestations of the core elements of slow dramaturgy: attention, connection, solidarity, stability, balance, joy, authenticity, and sustainability. Consequently, slow dramaturgy is affirmed not merely as a shift in speed, but as an aesthetic practice of deep reflection and transformation concerning modes of living and being.
