어플라이드 시어터의 미학과 윤리 - 2000년대 이후 주요 논점과 그 변화를 중심으로

본 연구는 2000년대 이후 서구 어플라이드 시어터의 핵심 담론으로 부각된 미학과 윤리에 대해 고찰한다. 이는 곧 동시대 어플라이드 시어터의 이론과 실천의 동향을 반향 한다. 먼저 본고는 기성의 전통적 미학과 대별 되는 어플라이드 시어터의 미학적 토대를 조명하고, 어플라이드 시어터를 이끄는 주요 이론가/실천가의 논의에 기반하여 ‘순수’예술의 대응기제로서의 ‘효과’와 그를 촉진하는 윤리에 중점을 둔 어플라이드 시어터가 어떻게 ‘정동’으로, ‘미학’으로 논점을 전환하는지에 대해 살핀다. 나아가 ‘정동적 참여(affective engagement)’를 관통하는 미학과 윤리의 상호의존과 ‘연결’의 성찰적 전망과 함께, 상호호혜적인 돌봄의 미학/윤리가 인간-타자 너머 비인간-사물로 확장하는 과정을 제시한다. 이 과정에서 본 연구는 어플라이드 시어터의 미학과 윤리에 대한 사유가 곧 우리 모두의 삶을 에워싸고 있는 세계질서, 신자유주의 세계자본주의와 긴밀하게 연결되어 있으며, 바로 그 현실에 대한 질문과 탐구를 위해 연극이 ‘응용’된다는 전제에 주목하고 있다.
Abstract
This study examines the aesthetics and ethics that have emerged as major discourses of Applied Theater since 2000s. It reflects the contemporary trends in the theory and practice of Applied Theater. This paper first illuminates the aesthetic foundation of the Applied Theater, which is largely different from the existing traditional aesthetics. Furthermore It shows how the issue about Applied Theater shifts from ‘effect’ and ‘ethics’ to ‘affect’ and ‘aesthetics’ with paying attention to the discussion of major theorists/practitioners who have led the Applied Theater. This study examines how their theories have made the reflective prospect of connection and interdependence of the aesthetics and ethics through ‘affective engagement’ in spite of their differences. In addition, it presents the process expanding the aesthetics/ethics of reciprocal care from ‘the other’ of the human world to the things of the non-human world. This study does give attention to the premise that the thoughts for the aesthetics and ethics of Applied Theater are closely linked to our world order, our neoliberal global capitalism within our lives, and that Applied Theater does ‘applies’ art of theatre to ask and explore our reality.
