학생 주도성의 양상과 교육적 가능성 탐색: 오디세이학교 사례를 중심으로

본 연구는 미래 교육이 지향하는 핵심역량이자 2025년 전면 도입된 고교학점제의 핵심 가치인 학생 주도성이 실제 학교 현장에서 어떻게 실현되는지 실증적으로 탐색하였다. 학생들의 자발적 배움을 지향하는 교육과정운영과 전환학년제를 특징으로 하는 오디세이학교 사례를 선정하고, 학습방식, 평가, 교육과정 운영, 교사 역할, 학교문화의 다섯 차원을 중심으로 질적 사례연구를 수행하였다. 오디세이학교의 교사 15명과 학생 10명을 대상으로 한 면담, 수업 및 학교 활동 관찰, 관련 문서 자료를 포함하여 자료를 수집하고, 질적 분석을 통해 이를해석하였다. 분석 결과, 학생 주도성은 자기 탐색을 지원하는 전환 교육활동, 자기효능감 함양을 위한 책임 중심수업, 지속적인 성찰과 성장 중심 평가, 조력자이자 길잡이로서의 교사 역할, 그리고 심리적 안전감이 보장되는상호 존중의 학교문화가 결합된 교육환경 속에서 형성되고 촉진되었다. 특히 선택권 자체보다 선택할 수 있는역량을 기를 수 있는 교육적 맥락이 강조되었다. 결과는 학생 주도성 실현을 위해 수업･평가･교육과정･교사 전문성･학교문화 전반에 걸친 교육 패러다임의 전환이 필요함을 시사한다.
Abstract
Purpose: This study analyzed how student agency is cultivated in Odyssey School and discussed its implications for the high school credit system. Design/methodology/data/approach: Qualitative inquiry was conducted. The data analyzed are documents on Odessey schools, interviews transcripts (15 teachers and 10 students in Odessey school) and field notes written during observations. Findings/Results: The findings suggest that student agency was nurtured through transition-focused activities and responsibility-based learning designs, and self-reflection and growth-oriented evaluation served as core mechanisms of student agency. Teachers played the role of pathfinders, co-designers of learning and supporting students through active interaction. The school culture, characterized by psychological safety and mutual respect, enabled students to express their voices freely and participate actively in curriculum design. In particular, raising the capability to choose was even more highlighted to provide the diversity of the educational programs. Value: This study suggests the overall educational paradigm shift in curriculum, assessment, teacher roles, and school culture to realize student agency.
