Abstract
This study defines the concept of embodiment-based speech and proposes its operational principles. Embodiment-based speech is described as a creative and dynamic manner of speaking that utilizes bodily sensorimotor experiences within a given environment. This study establishes that embodiment-based speech is grounded in cognitive science concepts such as embodied mind, expressivity of language, embodied language, and physicality of language. Consequently, it is argued that embodiment-based speech maintains the performative intention of utterances and reflects environmental factors, distinguishing it from ironic speech and psychological gestures. Furthermore, I apply Rudolf Laban’s concept of “effort” to present the principles of embodiment-based speech. Embodiment-based speech can be applied to various fields, including actor training, language learning programs, and communication with artificial intelligence. Additional studies are required to investigate the cognitive outcomes of embodiment-based speech.
