Abstract

The purpose of this study was to explore the role of expressive movement in terms of cognitive psychology, motor behavior, and neuro-science and to search other functions beyond performing arts field. For the analysis, concept of movement and expressive movement were discussed. Also, two aspects of understanding movement; ‘doing’ and ‘viewing’ were explored. Specifically, analysis for ‘doing’ aspect was discussed based on embodied cognition from cognitive psychology domain and analysis for ‘viewing’ aspect was discussed based on motor behavior and neuro-science. From analysis of two aspects, It had explored that how expressive movement researches were developed divided into areas of non-verbal communication, animation, dance science, and learning field. Finally, based on theoretical foundations and academic researches it had discussed expressive movement domain were applied to real-world program.
