체현(embodiment)의 재구성: 연극치료의 맥락에서 -행화적 관점의 ‘체화된 인지’에 기반하여

연극치료에서 흔히 사용하고 있는 개념어 ‘체현’은 중요도에 비해 빈약한 논의 속 통상적이고 제한된 범주 내에서 운위되고 있다. 본 연구는 연극치료에 있어 체현 이해에 대한 현재의 지형과 문제점을 살피는 가운데 인지신경과학을 지반에 둔 수 제닝스의 체현 논의의 모순과 한계를 조명함으로써 체현 개념의 재구 가능성을 타진한다. 이에 퐁티의 영향을 받은 행화적(enactive) 관점의 ‘체화된 인지’ 이론을 저변으로, 체화/체현과 긴밀한 연관 가능성에도 불구하고 소거된 채 지금껏 정체를 드러내지 못했던 ‘바디 스키마’ 개념을 본격 대두시켜 체현의 개념 지평을 확장하며, 동시에 신체상(body image)과 연관된 몸 자아(body self)개념의 관습적 인식 구도를 탈구한다. 이처럼 본 연구는 기존 체현 개념논의를 전면 재고하고 연극치료에서의 ‘몸’과, 그와 연계된 체현의 개념기반을 새롭게 정초하고 있다.
Abstract
The concept of ‘embodiment’, which is frequently used in drama therapy, is poorly discussed compared to its importance, and is understood and utilized within conventional and limited categories. This study examines the current topography and problems of understanding embodiment in drama therapy, and explores the possibility of reconstructing the concept of embodiment by highlighting the contradictions and limitations of Sue Jennings’ discussion of embodiment based on cognitive neuroscience. Accordingly, based on the enactive views of ‘embodied cognition’ influenced by Ponty, this paper expands the conceptual horizon of embodiment by bringing to the fore the concept of ‘body schema’, which is closely related to embodiment but has been obscured and left undiscovered until now, and at the same time dislocates the conventional cognitive structure of the concept of body self associated with body image. This study completely reconsiders the existing discussion on the concept of embodiment and establishes a new conceptual foundation for the ‘body’ and embodiment related to it in drama therapy.
