국어교육을 위한 국어 반모음과 음운 체계 기술 방안에 대한 제언

Abstract

Taking the current status of school grammar related to semivowels as an opportunity, this study re-examines the phonological status of semivowels in Korean and discusses desirable ways to handle semivowels and diphthongs in which semivowels get involved in the phonemic system of Korean. Structuralist phonology clearly explains that if a speech sound can be separated to be another unit, it is difficult to see it as a single phoneme. This can be considered as an unchanging declaration regardless of the phoneme of any language. Just because language users recognize them as different sounds, it dos not mean that they can be all qualified as phonemes, and it is the task of linguists to systematically organize and explain the various language units that people consider different. It is also discussed that it might be desirable to increase the educational effect by recognizing the semivowels of Korean as independent phonemes, and mentioning the list of diphthongs in which semivowels and monophthongs are combined in the phonemic system of Korean as well.
