What is the corpus ? A corpus is the textual sample of linguistic data produced by a language community. In the same way, we can define the translation corpus as a collection of translations data. The Descriptive Translation Studies and the Corpus-based Translation Studies insist on a corpus-driven research into translations for the universalization of translation principles, because a translation corpus contains the samples of translations produced by professional or non professional translators. But the corpus is considered as a computational tool in the field of Machine Translation, and so the corpus-based research usually accept quantitative analysis. Strictly speaking, the translation is human language activity and the place where two different language-culture meet. Therefore it is a phenomenon of human sciences. And then the main goal of a corpus-based translation studies is to explain the fundamental principle of translation depending on a parallel corpus. Consequently the translation corpus must be considered as a textual data that allows to systematize explicitly translation phenomena and its theory (qualitative analysis), not merely a formal data (quantitative analysis).
