본 연구의 목적은 ‘시간성’을 공공디자인의 주요 개념이자 표현 요소로 제안함으로써 시간성이 공공성실현의 수단이 될 수 있음을 입증하는 것이다. 본 연구는 공공디자인에서 구성원들 간의 상호작용을유도하는 요소 중 하나가 ‘시간성’이 될 수 있을 것이라는 가설을 바탕으로, 시간성에 관한 문헌조사와시간성에 입각한 공공디자인 사례조사 방법으로 수행하였다. 시간성에 관한 문헌조사는 공공디자인과직접적으로 관련되어 있다고 판단한 ‘개념’에 해당하는 철학적 해석, ‘사용자 경험’에 해당하는 경험적해석, ‘물성을 가진 사물과 공간’과 관련된 현상학적 해석을 바탕으로 동시대 시간성에 관한 해석을 진행하였으며, 시간성에 입각한 공공디자인 사례조사는 시간성이 형상화된 공공건축, 공공예술, 공공시설물로 디자인계에 공공성 개념이 도입되기 시작한 1980년대 이후 공공공간에 설치된 공공디자인 결과물을 연구대상으로 하였다. 2장에서는 시간성의 개념과 의미 변화 과정, 동시대 시간성에 관한 해석을 바탕으로 공공영역에서의 시간성을 공동체를 상기시키기 위한 근원적 시간, 개인과 사회 구성원의연속적 경험에 의한 상호작용 시간, 사물과 공간 창작의 재료이자 조형 요소로써 파악하고 공공의 시간성, 경험의 대상으로서의 시간성, 창작의 대상으로서의 시간성으로 분류하여 개념을 정립하였다. 3 장에서는 시간성에 입각한 공공디자인 표현 사례 분석을 통해 표현 특성을 도출하였다. 공공의 시간성은 공동체 기억의 지속을 목적으로 반복적이고 지속적인 형태로 기념비적이고, 경건하며, 숭고한 느낌으로 형상화되며, 경험의 대상으로서의 시간성은 사적 기억의 공간적 개입을 통한 다중시점의 형상화와 행위 유도의 공간적 개입을 통한 동시성으로 형상화된다. 창작의 대상으로서의 시간성은 가변적이고 유기적이며 변화하는 양상을 보이며, 빛과 명암, 우주적 배치를 통한 동시성과 생명체적 이미지로형상화된다는 결론을 도출하였다.
Abstract
The purpose of this study is to prove that temporality can be a means of realizing publicity by proposing ‘temporality’ as a major concept and as an expression element of public design. Based on the hypothesis that one of the factors inducing interaction among members in public design could be ‘temporality’, this study was conducted using a literature search on temporality and a public design case study method based on temporality. The literature review on temporality is based on the philosophical interpretation corresponding to the ‘concept’, the empirical interpretation corresponding to the ‘user experience’, and the phenomenological interpretation related to ‘objects and spaces with physical properties’. The public design case study was conducted on public design results installed in public spaces since the 1980s, when the concept of publicity was introduced into the design world with public architecture, public art, and public facilities embodying temporality. In Chapter 2, concepts were established by classifying them into public temporality, temporality as an object of experience, and temporality as an object of creation. Temporality in the public domain was identified as a fundamental time for the permanent community, an interaction time through continuous experiences of individuals and members of society, and a material and formative element for creating objects and spaces. In Chapter 3, expression characteristics were derived through the analysis of public design expression cases based on temporality. The public temporality is embodied in a repetitive and continuous form for the purpose of lasting the memory of the community. Temporality as an object of experience is shaped by the shaping of multiple viewpoints through the spatial intervention of private memory and simultaneity through the spatial intervention of action induction. As an object of creation, it exhibits a variable, organic, and changing aspect, and it is concluded that it is embodied as a simultaneity and living image through light, contrast, and cosmic arrangement.
