현대 가구디자인에 나타나는 시간성 표현에 관한 연구 -과정예술(Process Art)을 중심으로-

본 논문의 목적은 현대 가구디자인을 ‘과정예술’이라는 맥락에서 가구의 ‘시간성’에 주목하여 가구를 ‘일상을 예술로 만들기 위한 매개체’로 재해석함으로써, 가구디자인의 방향성과 새로운 발전 가능성을 탐구하고 가구디자인이 발전할 수 있는 기반을 마련하는 데 있다. 이를 위한 연구 내용과 결과는 다음과 같다. 우선적으로 1960년대 포스트모더니즘의 등장으로 현대예술에서 매체 간 구분이 사라지고, 예술작품에서 현실세계인 일상공간과 초현실세계로 존재했던 미술관 사이의 구분 또한 모호해지는 과정을 알아보았다. 이를 바탕으로 ‘과정으로서의 삶’과 ‘작품’을 동일시하는 경향으로 나타난 ‘과정예술’의 형성과정을 연구하고, 과정예술의 개념을 정리하였으며, 과정예술에서의 사물과 시간성의 의미를 도출하였다. 또한, 1960년대 이후 등장한 과정예술에서의 시간성 표현 방식을 ‘행위의 물리적 증거’, ‘관계적 형태’, ‘질료의 상태 변화’로 구분하여 과정예술 작품들을 분석하였다. 다음으로 기존의 실용적 기능을 디자인하는 것에서 감성적 기능, 예술적 기능까지 디자인하며 나타난 가구디자인 개념의 확장과정에 대해 알아보았다. 이를 바탕으로 가구디자인의 개념을 재정립하고, 가구와 시간성의 관계를 도출하였으며, 확장된 예술영역의 공간에서 가구의 역할에 주목하고 가구디자인과 과정예술과의 상관관계를 알아보았다. 또한 2000년대 등장한 시간성이 표현된 가구디자인을 과정예술에서의 시간성 표현 방식과 같은 맥락에서 ‘조형 행위를 시각화한 가구디자인’, ‘사용자의 구체적 행동을 유발하는 가구디자인’, ‘질료의 상태변화를 형상화한 가구디자인’ 으로 구분하여, 이를 해석하고 분석하였다. 연구는 이론분석, 개념도출, 비교분석의 방법으로 이루어졌다.
Abstract
The purpose of this thesis is to prepare the foundation for advancement of the furniture design and to search for new possibility of development in the furniture design by reinterpreting furniture as 'the medium to make arts of daily life', focusing on the 'temporality' of furniture under the context of the 'process art' in the contemporary furniture design. The research contents and result therefor are shown as follows. At first, with the emergence of the post modernism in the 1960s, the classification of media has largely disappeared in the contemporary art and the classification of the life space as the real world and the museum as the surreal world within the art works has become ambiguous. Based on this, it has studied the formative process of the 'process art' displayed in the trend of identification of 'art work' and 'life as a process', has summarized the concept of the process art, and has formulated the implication of things and temporality in the process art. In addition, it has analyzed the art works of the process art by classifying the expression method of time in the process art emerged after the 1960s into 'physical evidence of act', 'relational form', and 'change of material conditions.' Next, it has studied the expansion process of furniture design concepts appeared in designing from the existing practical function to emotional function and artistic function. Based on this, it has reestablished the concept of furniture design and has formulated the relationship between furniture and time. In addition, it has studied the correlations in the furniture design and the process art. Furthermore, the furniture design with the expression of temporality emerged in the 2000s has been interpreted and analyzed by classifying it into 'furniture design visualizing formative acts', 'furniture design stimulating the detailed behavior of users', and 'furniture design embodying the change of material conditions' in the same context with the expression method of time in the process art. The study is composed of the following method: theory analysis, concept formulation and comparative analysis.
