Abstract

This study examines changes in the 2022 revised Korean language textbook for first and second grade elementary school students and suggests ways to utilize the new textbook. The new Korean language textbook has a wide range of changes in terms of content and system. Major content changes include strengthening Hangul learning such as the establishment of a Hangul play yard, strengthening basic literacy skills such as fluency, vocabulary, sentences, and spelling, and emphasizing media communication. Hangeul Playground is a special unit set up for understanding and mastering the Korean alphabet in the new curriculum, providing a fun ‘Hangeul play’ experience. Also, rather than using media, try to pay attention to various media communication in daily life. Major changes in the system include the unit system, the composition of basic learning and integrated learning, the establishment of new structural lessons in practical learning, the strengthening of the function of Korean Language Activities, and the strengthening of the function of Teacher’s Guide as an original book. In basic learning, you learn the content elements of the achievement standards, and in integrated learning, you use the content elements of the achievement standards to engage in text reception and production activities to ensure in-depth Korean language learning.
