한국-멕시코 문화 간 비즈니스 커뮤니케이션에 나타난 갈등과 장애요인 연구

본 연구에서는 멕시코에 진출한 한국기업에서 근무하는 한국인 직원들과 멕시코 직원들 간의 커뮤니케이션에서 발생하는 오해와 갈등의 유형을 파악하고 장애요인을 분석하고자 한다. 이를 위해 2017년 4월부터 9월까지 멕시코의 한국기업에 근무하는 한국인 직원 62명과 멕시코 직원 77명, 총 139명을 대상으로 설문조사를 실시하였다. 양국 직원들 간의 소통에서 가장 큰 장애요인은 언어 문제로 한국인 직원의 스페인어 구사능력 부족이 주된 요인이다. 언어문제 이외에도 양국 간의 문화의 차이로 인해 직원들 상호간의 소통에서 오해나 갈등이 발생하는 것으로 나타났다. 설문조사에서 나타난 오해나 갈등을 유발하는 요인들은 개인주의/집단주의, 권력거리의 차이, 불확실성의 회피, 남성성/여성성, 단기 지향성/장기 지향성, 시간관념이라는 항목으로 분류할 수 있었다. 먼저 개인의 삶과 가족을 우선시 하는 멕시코인의 개인주의 가치관과 개인이나 가족보다는 회사를 먼저 생각하는 한국인의 집단주의 가치관이 충돌하여 서로간의 소통을 어렵게 한다. 지위에 상관없이 인간은 평등하다고 생각하는 멕시코인에게 상명하복의 엄격한 위계질서를 강조하는 한국인의 권위주의 문화는 양국 직원들 간의 소통에서 넘기 어려운 장애물로 작용하는 것 또한 사실이다. 멕시코의 업무방식을 수용하지 않고 한국의 업무방식을 따를 것을 강요하고 한국인이 멕시코 사람들보다 우월하다고 생각하는 한국인의 자민족중심주의 역시 소통의 장애요소로 작용한다. 일의 시급성을 고려하지 않고 느긋하게 일을 하는 멕시코 직원들의 업무 스타일과 빠른 업무속도를 요구하는 한국인 직원들의 업무스타일 사이에는 커다란 간극이 존재한다. 한국인과 멕시코인이 가지고 있는 시간관의 차이, 즉 약속시간을 엄수하지 않는 멕시코인들의 행동으로 인해 한국인들이 많은 어려움을 겪고 있다.
Abstract
This study aims to study obstacles that cause conflicts and misunderstandings that appear in intercultural communication in the labor relations between Mexicans and Koreans in Korean companies in Mexico. A survey was conducted with 62 Koreans and 77 Mexicans in 2017. The result of the survey shows that the categories of obstacles to intercultural communication between two peoples are divided into language problem and cultural differences. Among the cultural differences the following tendencies stand out: Mexicans show high individualism. Koreans, by contrast, have strong group orientation. Both peoples belong to larger power distance cultures, but in Mexico subordinates are generally comfortable interacting with their superiors. In Korea a strict hierarchy are maintained between them. The Mexican and the Korean have strong masculinity and high uncertainty avoidance is shown among Koreans. The long-term orientation is prevalent among Korean workers and the short-term orientation, by contrast, predominate among Mexican workers. The puntuality is important among Koreans, but the impuntuality(neglect of puntuality) es predominat among Mexicans.
