Abstract
This study examines the relationship of children’s executive function and children’s learning related school readiness through the mediating effect of children’s play initiative. Using the questionnaire survey method, 279 5-year-old children and 150 teachers working at kindergarten in Gyeonggi Province and Kangwon Province participated. The results are as follows. First, a statistically meaningful relationship existed among children’s executive function, children’s play initiative, and children’s learning related to school readiness. Second, the children’s play initiative partially mediated the relationship between children’s executive function and children’s learning related to school readiness. This study offers implication that children’s play initiative proves to be a valuable element in play-centered children’s education.
