Abstract
The purpose of this study is to investigate the moderating effect of mothers' affectionate parenting on the relationship between Chinese children’s shyness and preschool adjustment. For this purpose, this study was conducted with 243 children aged 3-4 who attended four preschools located in China, and their mothers. The SPSS 26.0 program was used for data analysis, and descriptive statistical analysis, Pearson correlation analysis, and hierarchical regression analysis were performed. The results of the study were as follows. First, the results of the study revealed that Chinese children’s shyness had a significant effect on their preschool adjustment. Second, it was found that their mothers' affectionate parenting moderated the relationship between children’s shyness and their preschool adjustment. The results of this study are significant in that they provide a concrete and practical method for mothers' parenting methods to support the adjustment of shy children in preschools, and furnish empirical evidence to support the moderating effect of mothers' affectionate parenting.
