Abstract

The purpose of this study is to explore the direction and methods of music education as lifelong education and to develop a specific program. Recently, interest in and need for lifelong music education is increasing due to the continuous decline in the school-age population and the increasing aging population. Members of modern society pursue well-being and happiness in their lives and actively prepare for life in old age as life expectancy increases. In addition, as interest in and expectations for enjoying music and other cultural arts grow, the need for lifelong music education is growing. However, contrary to these expectations and demands, there is a relative lack of research on the curriculum, teaching and learning methods, and programs of lifelong music education compared to school music education, and the scope and content of music programs in actually operated lifelong music education institutions are limited. The reality is that there is a lack of diversity. In this study, the researcher considered the values and goals pursued by David Elliott's ‘Praxial music education’, and derived the direction and method of a lifelong music education program through related literature and previous researches. Through this study the researcher designed specific contents and teaching and learning activities and provided 12-session ‘With Music’ program with 6 topic areas. We hope that this study will help develop a lifelong music education program that more people can enjoy music in their lives and realize the values of life through music.
