Abstract
This study aims to explore Luke's view of humankind through the Greek term, γένος, which occurs in the Areopagus speech of Paul. The term γένος means lineage of shared descent and yet its meaning is expanded into the concept of cosmopolis by Stoicism. For Romans, this term serves as the keyword for the cosmopolitanism and homogeneity of the entire empire. Meanwhile, Luke rectifies the sense of the word. Luke's Paul proclaims that the ancestor of humankind is one root(Adam) and thereby emphasizing that all humankind becomes one lineage. Since the origin of humankind is God, all of human beings are God's offspring. Thus, γένος in the Areopagus speech can be said not so much repetition of Greek poem as subversion for the discourse of cosmopolitanism of Graeco-Roman world, providing Luke's own new worldview, that is, the inhabited world in which the offspring of God dwell and ruled by God.
