Abstract

This study explores from the perspective of radical orthodoxy whether the materiality and spirituality of the Eucharist can lead to participation. The researcher will begin by outlining the physical attributes (primary characteristics) of the Eucharistic elements and then explore how these elements transform into spiritual entities (secondary characteristics). This transformation allows believers to encounter Christ through material substances and enables Christ to be manifested through these materials. One of the goals of this research is to comprehend the interconnected relationship between material and spirituality. In the Eucharist, Christ presents His body to the believers, who in turn partake in His body, creating a mutual encounter through the medium of material. The transformation of material into Christ in the Eucharist is possible because material can be represented as spirituality, and Christ can become material due to the necessity of spirituality altering material into a new form. Ultimately, in the Eucharist, material and spirituality are interrelated, allowing bread and wine to become the body and blood of Christ, and His body and blood to revert to bread and wine.
