연구 목적: 본 연구는 한국의 상호문화 사회로의 전환과 함께 상호문화 감수성에 대한 관심이 높다. 이에 여행, 어학연수, 취업 등 개인의 해외 경험이 상호문화 감수성과 어떠한 관계가 있으며 그 영향은 무엇인가에 대해 알아보고자 함에 연구 목적이 있다. 연구 방법: 상호문화 감수성 척도(ISS)를 사용하여 서울시에 거주하는 성인 70명을 대상으로 설문조사를 진행하고, 이후 면담에 동의한 6명의 연구참여자를 대상으로 심층 면담을 진행하였다. 연구 내용: 개인의 해외 경험은 성별, 나이, 학력, 체류 기간, 체류 유형에 관계 없이 상호문화 감수성 발달에 영향을 주고 있었다. 특히 상호작용 참여와 상호작용 자신감의 요인에 유의미한 영향을 주었으며, 심층면담 결과 자존감, 자기점검, 열린마음, 공감, 상호작용 참여, 판단중지의 태도를 발견하였다. 결론 및 제언: 개인의 해외 경험은 상호문화 감수성과 유의미한 관계에 있으며, 개인은 해외에서 문화적 소수자의 위치성을 경험하며 타문화에 대한 이해에 앞서 인정의 태도를 자연스럽게 실천하고 학습하기 위해 노력하고 있었다. 본 연구는 설문조사의 제한적 요인이 있으나 시의성에 의미가 있고 향후 연구대상 규모를 확대 및 세분화한 연구가 제안된다.
Abstract
The purpose of this study is to find out how an individual’s experience abroad affects intercultural sensitivity, as Korea has become an intercultural society and interest in intercultural sensitivity has increased. For the study, a survey was conducted on 70 adults in Seoul using the Intercultural Sensitivity Scale (ISS), and in-depth interviews were conducted with 6 participants who agreed to the interview. Individual overseas experiences affect intercultural sensitivity regardless of gender, age, academic background, length of stay, and type of stay. Among the various factors, interaction participation and interaction confidence factors were influenced, and self-esteem, self-examination, open mind, empathy, interaction participation, and suspending judgment were found in the in-depth interview. As a result of the study, an individual’s experience abroad affects their intercultural sensitivity. Because they experience the positionality of cultural minorities, they tried to learn and practice an attitude of recognition rather than understanding other cultures. Although this study has the limiting factors of the survey, it is still a meaningful study. In the future, it is proposed to expand the size of the research subject and conduct a subdivided study.
