본 연구는 본격적으로 글로컬 교육과정이 대학의 고등교육에 도입되는 시점에서 대학의 글로컬 역량 교육을 대비하기 위해 대학생들이 갖추어야 할 글로컬 역량에 대한 이해를 재고하고자 다음과 같은 연구 문제를 설정하였다. 1) 한국인 재학생과 외국인 유학생은 문화간 감수성 및 글로컬 역량에서 각각 차이를 나타내는가? 2) 문화간 감수성과 글로컬 역량의 관계는 어떠한가? 3) 문화간 감수성은 글로컬 역량에 어떠한 영향을 미치는가? 본 연구는 글로컬대학30에 선정된 지방의 A 대학의 학생들을 대상으로 ‘문화간 감수성 척도’와 ‘글로컬 역량 척도’를 사용하여 양적 측정을 하였으며, ‘문화간 감수성’과 ‘글로컬 역량’을 변인으로 하여 차이검증, 상관분석, 회귀분석을 실시하였다. 조사 대상은 ‘한국인 재학생 집단’과 ‘외국인 유학생 집단’으로 나누어 비교하였는데, 문화간 감수성 정도의 차이는 타문화 접촉 환경에 따라 달라질 수 있을 것이라 예상했기 때문이다. 먼저 문화간 감수성에서 차이를 검증한 결과, 외국인 유학생 집단이 유의하게 높은 점수를 획득했으며, 글로컬 역량에서도 외국인 유학생 집단이 유의하게 높은 점수를 나타냈다. 다음으로 상관분석 결과, 문화간 감수성과 글로컬 역량 사이의 정(+)적 상관관계를 확인하였다. 마지막으로 회귀분석 결과, 문화간 감수성이 글로컬 역량에 유의한 정(+)적 영향을 미치는 것을 확인하였다. 이러한 연구 결과를 바탕으로 한국의 대학에 재학 중인 학생들의 ‘문화간 감수성’과 ‘글로컬 역량’의 정도를 확인하여 글로벌-로컬 연계 역량 개발과 교육 방향성에 실질적인 시사점을 제공했다는 데에 본 연구의 의의가 있다.
Abstract
This study set up the following research questions to explore the understanding of glocal competence that university students should have in order to prepare for glocal competence education as the glocal curriculum is being introduced into higher education. 1) Do Korean students and international students exhibit differences in intercultural sensitivity and glocal competence? 2) What is the relationship between intercultural sensitivity and glocal competence? 3) How does intercultural sensitivity affect glocal competence? This study quantitatively measured intercultural sensitivity and glocal competence using the Intercultural Sensitivity Scale and the Glocal Competence Scale among students at University A in a province selected as a Glocal University 30, and conducted difference tests, correlation analyses, and regression analyses using intercultural sensitivity and glocal competence as variables. The subjects of the study were divided into ‘Korean students’ and ‘international students’ because intercultural sensitivity was expected to differ by the level of intercultural contact. First, we tested the difference in intercultural sensitivity and found that international students scored significantly higher. Glocal competence was also significantly higher among international students. Next, the correlation analysis confirmed a positive correlation between intercultural sensitivity and glocal competence. Finally, the regression analysis showed that intercultural sensitivity had a significant positive effect on glocal competence. The significance of this study is that it diagnosed the current status of intercultural sensitivity and glocal competence of students enrolled in Korean universities by identifying the degree of intercultural sensitivity and glocal competence, and laid the foundation for research on the development of educational programs to improve glocal competence.
