Abstract

This study was based on the assumption that intercultural sensitivity, which constitutes intercultural communication competence, may have influenced college students’ anxiety travel during the COVID-19 pandemic. Therefore t-test, correlation analysis, and regression analysis were conducted using ‘intercultural sensitivity’ and ‘anxiety travel’ as variables. The subjects of the study were divided into ‘Korean college students’ and ‘international students’ because it was expected that the degree of intercultural sensitivity would differ depending on the environment of intercultural contact. The results of the difference test on cultural sensitivity showed that the international students’ scores were significantly higher. Anxiety travel was also significantly higher among international students. Next, the correlation analysis confirmed a negative correlation between intercultural sensitivity and anxiety travel, which was significant for the overall group and the international students group, but not for the Korean college students. Finally, the regression analysis showed that intercultural sensitivity had a significant negative effect on anxiety travel in the overall group and the international students group. The significance of this study is that it identifies the extent of intercultural sensitivity and anxiety travel among students enrolled in Korean universities, diagnoses the current situation, and provides a basis for further research.
