대학 교양교육에서 비판적 사고 교육 제고 방안 －반성적 평형과 탐구공동체의 철학 실천을 중심으로－

오늘날 대학 교양교육에서 이루어지는 비판적 사고 교육은 논리학 중심의 분석 기술 훈련에는 강점을 보이지만, 학생들이 독자적으로 판단을 구성하고 그타당성을 정당화하는 능력을 기르는 데에는 한계를 드러낸다. 이에 본 논문은판단의 정당화 구조에 대한 철학적 접근으로서 반성적 평형(reflective equilibrium)과 탐구공동체(community of inquiry) 개념을 통합한 새로운수업 모델을 제안한다. 제1장은 오늘날 비판적 사고 교육이 판단의 형성과 조정 과정을 소홀히 함으로써 교육적 방향성을 약화시키고 있음을 비판하며, 이를 회복하기 위해 판단구성 능력을 핵심 목표로 재정립해야 한다고 주장한다. 제2장은 반성적 평형이도덕 판단을 원칙 적용이 아닌 상호 조정의 절차로 이해하게 하고, 이를 탐구공동체와 결합할 때 판단의 개방성과 수정 가능성이 제고된다는 점을 논증한다. 제3장은 반성적 평형과 탐구공동체의 결합이 학생들의 판단 정당화 역량과 근거 검토 능력을 실질적으로 향상시킬 수 있음을 제시한다. 제4장은 수업 사례분석을 통해, 이러한 수업이 판단의 정합성과 공적 설명 가능성을 강화하는 효과를 확인한다. 제5장은 이론과 사례를 종합하여, 반성적 평형-탐구공동체 통합이 사고 교육을 민주적 시민성과 공적 책임을 함양하는 방향으로 재정립하는 이론적⋅실천적 토대를 제공함을 결론짓는다.
Abstract
In contemporary university general education, critical thinking instruction excels in logic-based analytical skills but often neglects the formation and justification of independent judgments. This study addresses this gap by integrating reflective equilibrium—viewing justification as the mutual adjustment of intuitions, principles, and background theories—with the community of inquiry model, which emphasizes dialogical meaning-making through collaborative investigation. Chapter 1 critiques this neglect and argues for reinstating judgment construction as a core goal. Chapter 2 shows how reflective equilibrium reconceives moral judgment as an open, revisable process, and contends that combining it with the community of inquiry strengthens this quality. Chapters 3 and 4 demonstrate, through student performance and instructional cases, that the integrated model enhances the coherence, public defensibility, and critical examination of judgments. Chapter 5 concludes that this model provides a theoretical and practical foundation for reorienting thinking education toward democratic citizenship and public responsibility
