본 연구는 고시키시마사토방언에 나타나는 여격조사의 변이를 최적성 이론의 틀 속에서 설명하는 것을 목적으로 한다. 본 연구에서는 사토방언 여격조사의 기저형을 /ni/로 보고, 전설고모음류 앞 설정의 공명음을 금하는 *NI 제약을 채택, *NI 제약에 의한 /n/ 탈락이 여격조사의 다양한 변이를 초래한 원인으로 파악한다. *NI 제약에 의한 /n/ 탈락으로 명사 끝 모음과 /i/가 연접하는 경우가 발생하고 이러한 모음연속을 피하기 위해 명사 끝 모음과 /i/가결합하면서 [i:], [e:], [ja:] 등과 같은 다양한 표면형이 나타는 것이다. 여격조사가 장모음 뒤에 올 때는 /n/ 탈락이 일어나지 않는데 3모라의 초중음절을 금하는 *3μ 제약과 모라의삭제를 금하는 Maxμ 제약을 *NI 제약의 상위에 두어 이를 설명할 수 있다. 장모음 뒤에 위치한 여격조사 /ni/에서 /n/이 탈락하면 2모라의 모음과 1모라의 모음이 연속하게 된다. 이때 장모음과 단모음의 융합이 일어날 경우전체 모음이 3모라가 되어 *3μ 제약을 위반하게 되고, 모라수를 줄일 경우 Maxμ 제약의 위반이 발생하게 된다. 이러한 제약들의 위반을 피하기 위해 여격조사가 장모음 뒤에 올 때는 *NI 제약의 위반에도 불구하고 /n/ 탈락이일어나지 않는 것이다.
Abstract
The purpose of this study is to explain the variation of the dative particle in Koshikishima-Sato Japanese within the framework of Optimality Theory. This paper assumes that /ni/ is the underlying form of the dative particle in Sato Japanese, and adopts the constraint *NI, which prohibits coronal sonorants before front vocoids. The /n/ of the dative particle /ni/ is deleted by the constraint *NI, and it causes noun final vowels and /i/ to be connected. To avoid this vowel sequence, different surface representations like [i:], [e:], [ja:] appear. When the dative particle follows a long vowel, the /n/ deletion does not occur. This can be explained by placing the constraints *3μ, which prohibits the 3 mora syllables, and Max-μ, which prohibits the deletion of the mora, above the constraint *NI. If /n/ is deleted from the dative particle /ni/ after the long vowel, 2 mora vowels and 1 mora vowel are consecutive. At this point, if the long and short vowels coalesce, the entire vowel becomes 3 mora, violating the *3μ constraint, and reducing the number of mora results in violating the Max-μ constraint. To avoid violating these constraints, when the dative particle follows a long vowel, /n/ is not deleted, even though it violates the *NI constraint.
