도쿄 이주(1936년) 후의 장혁주 문학에 나타난 정체성의 모색-연속과 변용의 이행과정을 중심으로

Abstract

Evaluators on Jang, Hyeok-Ju have emphasized and criticized his works on the point of his “pro-Japanese sentiment nature”, adopting the strategy to interpret him both as a “pro-Japanese”participant to the formation of a Japanese empire subject which was a colony residents integrated measure, and as a legitimate Korean resident living in Japan after Korean liberation from Japan. Since this evaluation is appropriate because it is based on the facts, one should regard it when one discusses on Jang, Hyeok-Ju who was a typical pro-Japanese writer. One also should pay attention to the fact that both South Korea and Japan are sensitive to arguments on him. However, it seems undeniable that this typical evaluation on Jang, Hyeok-Juloses focus on “Jang, Hyeok-Ju’s process of becoming who he was”. While the evaluation clearly points on who he was as a result, it leads to the uniform argument on him disregarding the process. This paper studies “Jang, Hyeok-Ju’s process of becoming who he was”. The author focuses not only on the criticisms on him as an individual, but also on the historical and realistic situation brought to him by the conditions under the rule of Japanese imperialism. Jang, Hyeok-Ju sought for an hybrid-identity and culture of the Korean resident in Japan including himself, in his works publishedafter he moved to Tokyo. While other Korean writers assumed identity of Korean residents in Japan as what belongs to Korea, he had a different view point on it. This paper will explore how Jang, Hyeok-Ju had established his identity through a review of his works published in the later colonial period. The author traces the continuation and change of Jang, Hyeok-Ju’s process of establishing his identity, focusing on the relationship between the establishment of his identity and historical conditions of Japanese empire subject’s strength that brought national mobilization order to him.
