Abstract
This study analyzes the box office factors and success of the mid-to-low budget film <Love Reset> to suggest alternative ways to overcome the downturn and crisis in the Korean film industry. K-content has been leading the global content market with BTS, <Squid Game>, and <Parasite>, but the Korean film in- dustry, which relies on theater-based revenues, has been hit harder by COVID-19, including problems with the production and distribution structure centered on conglomerates. The downturn in the Korean film industry was further exacerbated by the proliferation of OTT and the increase in theater fees due to COVID-19 measures. As mid- and low-budget films have become an alternative, <Love Reset> is con- sidered a successful example of planning and strategic marketing. The film considered marketability from the planning stage by using familiar clichés to create a 'shared amnesia' setting and optimizing the casting of actors to create characters that resonated with audiences, and implemented differentiated marketing strategies such as releasing the film during the peak Chuseok season, targeted promotions, and viral marketing on social media to break even point in 2023 by at the box office, ranking fourth at the box office and first at the mid-to-low budget level. This is considered to be a new solution for the Korean film industry in crisis.
