Abstract

This paper examined how the structure of dictionaries, such as composition and structure of dictionaries, has changed in relation to major Korean Hanja dictionaries compiled in Korea since modern times to today. So, It was intended to help in the compilation of Korean Hanja dictionaries in the future. For this study, first, has outlined the trend of lexicography by major Korean Hanja dictionaries published in Korea from the modern flowering period to the latest are divided into three periods based on the compilation period. There have been many changes in the structure and content of these Chinese dictionaries over time, so the changes were considered in three aspects: First, in the changes of character shape processing, the ① change of 214 radicals and ② the additional information of Chinese characters were expanded. Next, in the changes of consonant processing, ① Chinese consonant notation method was diversified, ② left the real sound as the center, and the rest disappeared, and ③ Chinese consonant was expanded by adding or changing new Chinese consonants. Finally, in the changes of meaning processing, ① suggested the meaning of English and Japanese translation, ② converted and compiled Korean archaic, sarcastic, and profanity into modern standard words, ③ attempted to display part of speech information of Chinese characters, and ④ tried to present verbs and adjectives by ending with ‘-다’. Through the changing patterns of the Korean Hanja dictionaries compiled since the modern era, it is possible to derive how the direction of Korean Hanja dictionary compilation has changed as follows: First, in the process of compilation of various types of Jajeon (字典) and Okpyeon (玉篇), it can be said that the unique Koreanized version of Jajeon (字典) was completed. Secondly, it developed from the form of the Jajeon (字典) and the Okpyeon (玉篇), in which Chinese characters were compiled, to the form of a dictionary centered on the Chinese character vocabulary. Thirdly, a number of Hanja learning dictionaries have been compiled so that students can learn Chinese characters and Chinese characters vocabulary by including heading characters between 2,000 and 10,000. As described above, the trend and trend of the compilation of Korean Hanja dictionaries published in Korea after the modern era can give many implications for the compilation of a new Korean Hanja dictionaries in the future.
