한국의 초등학교 통합교육과정은 제 4차 교육과정에서 도입되어 현 2007년 개정 교육과정까지 25년이 넘는 세월을 보내며 꾸준히 통합교육을 발전시켜오고 있다. 이런 발전의 연속선상에서 초등학교 통합교육과정이 발전해야 할 방향을 네 가지 차원에서 제시하였다. 첫째는 초등학교 1-2학년을 대상으로 한 통합교육과정은 현재의 간학문적 접근에서 탈학문적 접근으로 그 방향을 바꾸어 도입하는 것이다. 둘째는 1-2학년의 3개 통합교과를 합하여 통합 활동으로 편제하는 것이다. 셋째는 통합 활동을 위한 교수-학습용 도서는 현행 국정 제에서 검인정제로 바꾸고, 종국에는 자유발행제로 편찬 방향을 바꾸는 것이다. 넷째는 평가에서 포트폴리오식 평가를 확대하는 것이다. 이를 기초로 연구자는 이 네 가지 방향의 기본적 기저를 논의하였다.
Abstract
The integrated curriculum for the elementary school children has beeb improved for over 25 years since the fourth revision of Korean elementary school curriculum in 1982. In this vein of developmental history, four directions through which the elementary integrated curriculum could be further improved have beeb suggested. First, it is necessary that the current interdisciplinary approach that has been based on the subjects has to been changed into the transdisciplinary approach that is based on the developmental level for the first to second graders. Second, a new curricular dimension, what we may term "Integrated Activity" should be created which integrates the current three integrated subjects. Third, the publication policy for the textbook for the Integrated Activity should change from that the system of national authorization to the one of free publication in order to incorporate the regional needs. Fourth, the evaluation system utilizing portfolio should be expanded in evaluating students' progress in the area of Integrated Activity. Discussing the rationale of the four directions, the author argued that we educators are in the tuning point in which the transdisciplinary approach that reflects maximally children's interest and needs should be introduced.
