Abstract
The integrated curriculum for the first and the second grade children in elementary school has been changed and developed since the revision of the fourth national curriculum. However, although the elementary integrated curriculum has accomplished some positive changes during the past 25 year of the history of the introduction, it has exposed many limitations due to the epistemological approach, that is, the integrative approach based on the subjects which has been the foundation of designing the elementary integrated curriculum and is considered inappropriate to the developmental characteristics of the first and the second grade children. One of the representative limitations is that although the integrated curriculum has been developed in order to overcome the fragmentation caused by the subjects, it is reproduced as a form of another subject; as a result, it produces an irony that the integrated curriculum is being implemented in fragmented form. In this vein, the author argued in order to overcome those limitations that the foundation of integrated curriculum for the children should be changed into the psychological approach that bases the integration on the experience of the children. And the author explained how the psychological approach can be embodied in the children's textbook and teacher's guidebook for the 2007 revised national elementary integrated curriculum.
