Abstract
Pungnyu music is a small piece of music enjoyed by Westerners and the middle class during the Joseon Dynasty in an indoor space called Pungnyu room. Pungnyu music led traditional music along with court music. However, in modern times, pungnyu music is in danger of rapidly disappearing along with the decline of the nobility and middle class that enjoyed pungnyu music. In Jeongeup, hereditary martial artists from the Cheonanjeon clan became the central professional musicians of the pungryu room Yeongmojae and led the development of pungnyu music, while enthusiasts such as Kim Pyeong-chang created pungryu music by operating the pungryu room ‘Yeongmojae’. The music blooms. The person who played the biggest role in establishing modern and contemporary Honam music was Jeon Gye-mun, a musician from the Jeon clan in Jeongeup and Cheonan and a musician at Jeonju Jaeincheong. Jeon Gye-moon was not only skilled in all musical instruments, but was also an excellent dancer. He traveled to pungnyu rooms in the Honam region, played pungnyu music, and trained students. Pungryubang was an equal space where there was no distinction between nobles and commoners through music. The trend of the times brought about changes in Pungryubang, and unlike Gyeongje Julpungnyu, the rhythm of Hyangje Julpungnyu is not broken. It had different characteristics depending on the lineage or region. This can be said to be a characteristic of the melody reinterpreted by local professional musicians such as Jeon Gye-moon. As professional performers such as Jeon Gye-moon, a shaman belonging to Jaeincheong, participated in Hyangjejulpungnyu, the ever-changing shamanic forms would have been naturally transferred to Julpungnyu. In this way, the Daepungnyu melody enjoyed by the Cheonanjeong clan, a hereditary dancer from Jeongeup, has structural characteristics that inevitably influenced the formation of Jeongeuphyangjejulpungnyu. In other words, it can be seen that Jeongeup Julpungryu is closely related to Daepungryu, which was played in the hereditary martial arts ritual.
