근대 초기 프랑스 단편 소설의 ‘번역’ 및 ‘번역 계보’ 연구 (1919～1921)

Abstract

This study aims to reconfirm of the importance and implication of ‘translation genealogy’ which was often passed over by the studies on the translated literature. The scope of this study covers several French short stories translated in the period from late 1910s and early 1920s which was the very beginning of the translation history in Korea. Our basic preliminary examination focuses on the situation and special features of the translation in this era and noteworthy change patterns from the original text to the translated ones. This article consists of four parts. First, the necessity of ‘translation genealogy’ is confirmed through the critical literature review about Maupassant’s L’Odyssée d’une fille. Second and Third, to introduce the research question, Amour and La Marquise de Brinvilliers by Dumas and Maupassant will be discussed generally since those two were translated in the early 1920s but didn’t get proper attention. Lastly, Maupassant’s Solitude translated by Kim Eok, who played the central role in the modern western literature translation, will be closely translated. The research mainly compares the past translated text with not only the original French text but English translation and Japanese translation of the same period. Furthermore, the study seeks to find the exact source text of many translated script through corroborative review. At the same time, the study tries to add rich discussion on translated literature by retracing the reason of bending the text, the understanding of the text by the translator at that time, and special features of the translation in that period, which are inevitably confronted during the course of meticulous ‘translation genealogy’ research. In this context, this study could be the first step to lead to more detailed discussions from general ones effectively.
