전문상담교사의 상담사 전문직 정체성 형성 경험에 관한 질적 사례연구

본 연구는 전문상담교사의 주요 업무 중에서 핵심이라 평가할 수 있는 ‘상담’에 초점을 두고 전문상담교사의 상담사 전문직 정체성 형성 경험을 살펴보는 데 목적이 있다. 이를 위해 사례를 심층적으로 이해하고 실제적인 문제해결을 위한 전략을 개발하는 데 유용한 질적 사례연구 방법(Creswell et al., 2007)에 따라 연구를 수행하였다. 연구참여자는 12년 이상의 현장경험을 가지고 있으며, 박사학위와 상담 관련 자격증을 소지하였고, ‘한국 상담사 전문직 정체성 척도(Korean Counselor Professional Identity Scale: K-CPIS)’에서 5점 이상(6점 만점)을 평정한 현직 전문상담교사 3명이었다. 연구 결과, ‘진정한 상담사가 되고자 학교상담자의 길에 들어섬’, ‘상담사로서 온전히 존재하기 힘든 현실을 마주함’, ‘상담 전문성을 학교상담의 맥락에 녹여내며 역할을 수행하고 안정화함’, ‘전문성 향상을 위해 주도적인 노력을 실천함’, ‘애써서 지켜온 노력을 내․외적으로 인정받음’, ‘상담사로서 변화와 성장을 이룬 자신을 발견함’의 6개의 영역이 도출되었다. 이러한 연구결과를 토대로 예비/현직 전문상담교사의 상담 전문성 강화와 전문직 정체성 형성의 관점에서 시사점을 논의하였다.
Abstract
The purpose of this study was to explore the formation of professional counselor identity of school counselor, focusing on ‘counseling’, which can be regarded as the core of their primary duties. To to this, research was conducted according to qualitative case study procedures(Creswell et al., 2007) that are useful for in-depth understanding of cases and developing strategies for practical problem solving. The participants were three in-service professional school counselors with over twelve years of field experience, each holding a doctoral degree and counseling-related certifications. All participants scored above 5 out of 6 on ‘the Korean Counselor Professional Identity Scale: K-CPIS’. As a result of the analysis, 6 categories were emerged: ‘entering the path of school counseling with the aspiration to become a genuine counselor’, ‘facing the reality of difficulties in fully existing as a counselor’, ‘integrating counseling professionalism within the school counseling context’, ‘engaging in proactive efforts to enhance professional competence’, ‘being recognized internally and externally for sustained efforts’, and ‘discovering oneself as a counselor who has achieved growth and transformation’. Based on these findings, implications for strengthening counseling expertise and fostering professional identity of pre-service and in-service professional school counselors were discussed.
