Abstract
Recent studies on second language vocabulary assessment have emphasized the importance of multiword items and depth of vocabulary knowledge. This paper aims to provide a comprehensive understanding of Korean collocation knowledge measurement methodology and identify remaining issues by analyzing methods for measuring Korean learners' collocation knowledge, focusing on collocations as a type of multiword items and a criterion for assessing quality of lexical knowledge. To this end, we analyzed 36 previous studies on Korean collocation assessment based on three major collocation knowledge measurement approaches. The analysis revealed that early studies predominantly used assessment tools to measure receptive and productive collocational knowledge. However, since 2020, corpus-based and psycholinguistic methods have been introduced, leading to a more multifaceted approach. Nevertheless, there remains a strong reliance on assessment tools, and gaps were found within each approach. The study identified the remaining research gaps and suggested future research directions to address them. Based on these suggestions, it is anticipated that a multifaceted approach to measuring Korean learners' collocational knowledge will be achieved through triangulation-based validation.
