<순자> 예론(禮論)의 특징과 그 사상적 연속성에 관한 고찰：청대 유학 사조와의 비교를 중심으로

본고는 순자 철학의 핵심 논제인 예론(禮論)의 구조를 인성론 – 천론 – 예론의 유기적 결합 논증으로 분석하고, 그 저변의 이론적 특징이 보편화될 수 있는 가능성을 몇몇 청대 유가의 사상체계와의 내재적 정합성을통해 논증한다. 순자의 예론은 그 역사적 위상 또는 쇠퇴 현상과는 별개로 독창적인 방식으로 예론의 정당성을 구현하고 있으며, 그 저변에는 인성론·천론이 자리하고 있음을 주장한다. 즉, 인성론·천론은 각각 인성의 결함, 그리고 천명과 인사 간의 질적 간극이라는 역점을 통해 예론의 근거 이론으로서의 역할을 수행한다. 청대 유가의 경우, 왕중·대진·능정감으로 이어지는 학술 흐름 속에서 점차 순자의 예론과 이론적인 유사성이 강화된다. 이러한 내재적 유사성·정합성은 시대적 문제의식·환경, 그리고 유가철학의 문제의식에 대한공통된 대응 방식과 긴밀히 연대하고 있다. 최종적으로 이러한 유사한 특질로부터 순자 철학의 보편적 특징및 연속성을 규명한다.
Abstract
This paper analyzes the structure of the philosophy of ritual (li) in Xunzi, which is the central theme of Xunzi’s philosophy, through the organic integration of arguments on human nature (xing), heaven (tian), and ritual. It argues for the potential universalization of the underlying theoretical features of Xunzi’s philosophy by demonstrating its intrinsic coherence with several Qing dynasty Confucian thought systems. The philosophy of ritual in Xunzi, regardless of its historical status or decline, uniquely legitimizes the concept of ritual and is fundamentally underpinned by theories of human nature and heaven. Specifically, human nature theory and heaven theory respectively address the deficiencies of human nature and the qualitative gap between heavenly mandate and human affairs, thereby serving as foundational theories for ritual. In the case of Qing Dynasty Confucians, the scholarly flow among Wang Zhong, Dai Zhen, and Ling Tingkan increasingly aligns theoretically with Xunzi’s philosophy of ritual. These intrinsic similarities and coherences are closely linked with era-specific concerns, environmental factors, and common responses to the philosophical issues of Confucianism.
