儒家 禮敎의 兩面的 성격: 封建宗法性과 普遍人倫性을 중심으로

본 논문에서는 유가 예교의 부정적긍정적 측면을 각각 ‘봉건종법성’과 ‘보편인륜성’으로 규정한 가운데 유가 예교의 양면적 성격에 대한 논의를 전개하였다. 유가 예교의 봉건종법적 성격은 종법적 차별과 차등을 정당화하는 유가 예교에 대한 묵자와 도가의 비판 과 함께, ‘민주와 과학’의 기치를 내걸고 유가 예교의 봉건성을 폭로한 중국 근대 지식인들의 유가 예교 비판을 통하여 고찰하였다. 그리고, 유가 예교의 보편인륜적 성격은 분별과 질서, 공경과 겸양, 그리고 화해를 그 근본 정신으로 하는 예의 항구적 가치와, 역사적 국한성을 지닌 ‘종법인륜’과 대비되는 본래적 의미의 ‘자연인륜’이 갖고 있는 보편적 가치를 통하여 논의하였다. ‘봉건종법성’과 ‘보편인륜성’으로 대표되는 유가 예교의 이러한 양면적 성격을 온전히 파악해야만 유가 예교에 대한 객관적인 역사적 평가는 물론 그것의 현대적 가치 문제에 대한 생산적 논의가 가능하다는 것이 본 논문의 요지이다.
Abstract
The purpose of this study was to make an analysis of the dual nature of Confucian ritualism. In this study, the dual nature of Confucian ritualism was defined as the ritualism of feudal-patriarch and the ritualism of universal-human relations. The former represents the negative sides of Confucian ritualism, and that was criticized by Mohists, Taoists, modern Chinese intellectuals and so on. The latter is counted as the positive sides of Confucian ritualism, and that was due to the eternal values of ritual properties and the absolute necessity of human relations, especially the original humanity. The essential points of this study is that we must get rid of our preconceived notion that Confucian ritualism was no more than the ritualism of feudal-patriarch, and should make an objective evaluation on the dual nature of Confucian ritualism.
