근거이론을 활용한 SNS에서 발생하는 학습경험 탐구

초록

SNS는 전 세계의 사람들이 일상생활에서 거의 매일 사용하고 있는 사회문화적 현상이다. 학습에 활용될 때 SNS는 학습에 유용한 도구나 환경으로서 작동하며, 학습자는 학습경험을 하게 된다. 그러나 SNS에서의 학습경험에 대한 체계적 이해가 부족하고 SNS에서의 유의미한 학습경험을 위한 활용방안에 대한 연구는 거의 없는 실정이다. 이에 본 연구는 심층적으로 경험의 내용을 분석할 수 있는 질적 접근을 이용하여 SNS에서 발생하는 학습경험의 모습을 체계적으로 탐구하고자 하였다. 이를 위해 26명의 학습자를 대상으로 질적 자료를 수집하고 근거이론을 적용하여 분석하였다. 분석결과, 개방코딩 단계에서 97개의 개념을 도출하였고, 축코딩 단계에서 33개의 하위범주와 15개의 상위범주를 도출하였다. 그리고 상위범주 간의 관계를 Strauss와 Corbin이 제시한 6개의 패러다임 요소로 나누어 정렬하고 학습경험의 패러다임 모형을 완성하였다. 구체적으로 모형은 1) 학습정보/조언 획득, 학습기록과 공유가 SNS에서 발생하는 중심현상으로, 2) 학습정보 존재, 연결과 확장, 편리한 정보 접근이 그 중심현상을 발생하게 하는 원인과 조건인 인과적 조건으로, 3) 의문점 해소, 휴식과 충전, 주변 지인의 참여가 중심현상에 영향을 미치는 구체적인 상황인 맥락적 조건으로, 4) 긍정적 조건들, 부정적 조건들이 중심현상을 촉진 혹은 완화시키는 중재적 조건으로, 5) 다양한 기능 활용, 행위규칙이 중심현상에 대처하기 위한 행위인 작용/상호작용 전략으로, 그리고 6) 새로운 분야경험, 지식습득, 부적경험이 중심현상으로 인해서 나타나는 결과로 구성되었다. 선택코딩 단계에서는 이전 분석결과를 유추함으로써 변화와 자각이라는 ‘성찰’을 SNS에서 학습자가 하게 되는 학습경험의 핵심범주로 도출하고 이를 중심으로 이야기 윤곽을 기술하였다. 이러한 연구결과를 토대로 SNS에서 발생하는 학습경험을 논의하고 시사점을 제시하고 후속 연구를 제안하였다.

Abstract

Social network service (SNS) is socio-cultural phenomenon that people throughout the world employ virtually every day. When utilized in learning, SNS is a useful tool or environment for learning in which learners are afforded learning experience. However, a systematic understanding of learning experience in SNS is lacking. Furthermore, there is a paucity of research on utilization plans for meaningful learning experiences in SNS. Thus, by employing a qualitative approach that affords an in-depth analysis of the contents of the experiences, the features of learning experiences that are prevalent in SNS were examined systematically. Accordingly, qualitative data from 26 learners were collected and analyzed by employing a grounded theory approach. The results revealed that 97 concepts from the open coding stage and 33 sub- and 15 upper-categories were derived from the axial coding stage. In this stage, these upper-categories were classified into the 6 paradigm model elements Strauss and Corbin recommended and a paradigm model of learning experiences was designed. The following aspects were included: causal conditions (existence of learning information, connection and extension, convenient information access), contextual conditions (resolving doubts, rest and recharge, and participation of acquaintance), key phenomena (acquisition of learning information/advice, learning record and sharing), intervening conditions (positive conditions, negative conditions), action/interaction strategies (utilization of varied functions, rules of conduct), and consequences (experience of new domain, knowledge acquirement). Finally, by employing the previous analysis in the selective coding stage, the core category named the reflection of change and awareness was derived. In accordance with the results, learning experiences in SNS are discussed and implications and recommendation for future studies are outlined.
