한국 다국적 기업의 글로벌 가치사슬 확장에 따른 지식기반제조업 파급효과 분석

본 논문은 OECD/WTO의 부가가치무역 통계를 활용하여 한국 다국적 기업의 글로벌 가치사슬 확장이 국내 지식기반산업 활성화에 미치는 영향을 실증 분석하고자 한다. 먼저 우리나라 지식기반산업의 총수출에서 글로벌 아웃소싱이 차지하는 비중을 분석한 결과 ICT제조업, 첨단기술 제조업, 자동차제조업 부문 등에서 1995년~2009년 중 글로벌 가치사슬 활용도가 약 2배 증가된 것으로 나타났다. 다음으로 지식기반산업에서 글로벌 아웃소싱에 따른 한국 다국적 기업의 고용, 부가가치창출, 노동생산성 등 경영활동의 변화가 지식기반산업 전체의 활성화에 미치는 영향을 2000년~2009년 사이 지식기반산업내 20개 소분류 산업에 속한 기업재무자료를 사용하여 계량분석하였다. 분석결과, 2000년~2009년 사이 글로벌 가치사슬 확장에 따라 산업내 다국적 기업의 부가가치창출이 1% 증가할 경우 지식기반제조업 전체의 평균 부가가치는 0.8% 증가하는 것으로 추정되었다. 이는 고부가가치창출 가능성이 높은 지식기반 제조업에서 한국 다국적 기업의 글로벌 가치사슬 확장이 산업전체의 평균 부가가치창출 및 노동생산성 향상에 긍정적 영향을 미치면서 결과적으로 동일한 지식기반산업내 중소기업들의 고용창출에 상당부분 기여할 수 있음을 시사한다.
Abstract
This paper investigates how the global value chain (GVC) expansion of Korean multinational enterprises (MNEs) in the knowledge-based manufacturing industries brings positive spillover effects on the invigoration of domestic knowledge-based industries. Using the OECD/WTO trade in value-added data and Korean firm level data covering the period between 2000 and 2009, this paper examines how the increases of Korean MNEs' employment, net profits, and labor productivity due to the GVC expansion affect those of small and medium-sized enterprises (SMEs) in 20 disaggregated-level industries including the ICT manufacturing, state-of-the-arts, automobiles, and those of the whole industry. The empirical findings show that a 1% increase in net profits of MNEs increases the average net profits of SMEs in the knowledge-based manufacturing industry by 0.8%. These findings imply that Korean MNEs' GVC expansion in the knowledge-based industries may affect the invigoration of SMEs' business activities within the same industries. In particular, the value-added creation of Korean MNEs positively affects the average value being added and labor productivity of all firms in the knowledge-based industries. An increase in labor productivity of MNEs may increase the average labor productivity at the industry level. As a result GVC expansion of Korean MNEs may positively increase SMEs' domestic employment within the same industry.
