인간의 의식은 교육을 통해 형성된다. 일반적으로 교과서 속의 삽화는 교과서의 내용을 쉽게 전달하고 학생들의 주의를 집중하게 하는데 효과적일 뿐만 아니라, 학생들이 미래 사회의 구성원으로 성장하기 위해 습득하게 되는 가치관이나 행동 규범을 배우는 중요한 통로가 되기 때문에 그 내용과 구성에 매우 신중할 필요가 있다. 본 연구의 목적은, 초등학교 5-6학년 음악 교과서의 인물 삽화를 양성평등교육과 다문화 교육․장애학생의 통합교육이라는 교육적 패러다임 변화의 관점에서 살핌으로써, 현 시대의 교육이 강조하는 있는 평등함과 다양함에 대한 인식이 2007년 개정 교육과정에 따라 집필된 음악교과서들에 실제로 얼마나 구현되었는지를 비교 분석하는 데 있다. 분석 기준은 희소성(invisibility)과 고정관념(stereotyping)이 사용되었다. 삽화 분석 결과, 여성, 다문화 가정의 학생 및 장애학생의 등장 비율과 여성 주연의 비율이 증가되어야 하고, 직업에 대한 성 역할 고정관념에서 벗어날 필요가 있으며, 다문화 가정의 학생 및 장애학생 등장의 성 비율이 균형을 이루어야 할 것 등이 논의 되었다.
Abstract
One’s consciousness is developed by education. Illustrations in textbooks are effective for easily conveying content and letting students focus. The social/cultural value system applied in the illustration content and format of textbooks provides a major impact on student principles, understanding, values, and actions. Because illustrations constitute a large part of elementary textbooks, their content and format should be carefully considered. The purpose of this study was to investigate illustrations in fifth and sixth grade music textbooks from the viewpoint of gender equality and the educational-paradigm change to multicultural/inclusive education, and to perform a comparative analysis of how much the cognition of equality and diversity in current educational theory has actually happened since publication of the revised national curriculum in 2007. Three volumes of fifth grade music textbooks and five volumes of sixth grade music textbooks were analyzed for invisibility and stereotype, two of the seven standards suggested by David and Myra Sadker. There are four areas in which illustrations can be improved. First, more females, students with multicultural backgrounds, and students with disabilities should be illustrated. Second, more females should be displayed as the main person. Third, a balanced view without any sex role stereotypes showing jobs and social life should be developed. Fourth, an equal ratio of males and females is needed in illustrations that show students with multicultural backgrounds and those with disabilities.
