이 글에서 나는 들뢰즈가 『주름』에서 제시한 화이트헤드의 신에 관한 해석을 출발점으로 삼아 화이트헤드의 형이상학 체계 안에서 신이 갖는 역할에 관한 카오스모스적 해석이 타당한지를 검토하고자 한다. 『주름』에서 들뢰즈는 화이트헤드의 신이 합생하는 현실적 계기들에 대해 갖는 제한 혹은 구체화의 원리의 양 측면(양방향의 운동)을 갖는다고 보며, 그것에 자신의 새로운 종합의 이론을 적용하여 이접적 종합의 비제한적(내포적) 사용과 제한적(배타적) 사용으로 규정한다. 이를 통해 들뢰즈는 화이트헤드의 형이상학적 우주론을 자신의 카오스모스적 우주에 접근하는 것으로 해석한다. 과연 우리는 화이트헤드의 신을 이접적 종합의 작인이라고 규정할 수 있을까?
Abstract
In this article, I would like to examine whether the chaosistic interpretation of the role of God in Whitehead's metaphysical system is valid, taking as a starting point Deleuze's interpretation of God in PLI. In PLI, Deleuze sees that Whitehead's God has both sides (movements in both directions) of the principle of limitation or concreteness with respect to the actual occasions, and applies his new theory of synthesis to it to create a disjunctive synthesis. It is defined as non-limited (inclusive) use and limited (exclusive) use. Through this, Deleuze interprets Whitehead's metaphysical cosmology as an approach to his own chaotic universe. Can we really define Whitehead's God as the agent of disjunctive synthesis?
