본 연구는 춘천 지역의 역사기록물 현황을 종합적으로 검토하고 이를 바탕으로한 연구 동향을 분석하는 것을 목적으로 한다. 역사기록물은 시대와 맥락에 따라개념과 범위가 달라지며, 지역의 정체성과 특수성을 규명하는 데 핵심적 자료로기능한다. 본 연구에서는 춘천과 관련된 기록물을 시대별·유형별로 구분하여 문헌자료, 고지도, 사진, 신문, 금석문, 고문서 등 다양한 범주를 검토하였다. 특히 일제강점기 자료와 근대기 신문 및 사진은 춘천의 도시 변천과 사회상을 고증하는 중요한사료임을 확인하였다. 또한 선행연구 검토를 통해 춘천 지역사 연구는 1990년대이후 활발히 진행되었으며, 맥국 관련 연구, 의병 연구, 일제강점기 지역사 연구, 가문 고문서 연구, 근대 도시화 연구 등 다양한 분야에서 성과가 축적되고 있음을밝혔다. 그러나 자료의 정리 미비, 접근성 한계, 디지털 아카이브 구축 부족 등여전히 해결해야 할 과제가 존재한다. 이에 따라 본 연구는 △체계적이고 지속적인기록물 조사·정리, △번역 사업을 통한 연구 접근성 제고, △지역사 통사 편찬사업 추진, △연구 인력과 지원 체계 강화 등을 제언하였다. 이러한 노력은 춘천의지역 정체성 확립은 물론 한국사 연구의 심화를 위해서도 필수적일 것이다.
Abstract
This study aims to examine the current status of historical records related to Chuncheon and to analyze research trends based on these sources. The concept and scope of historical records vary depending on period and context, but they function as key materials in identifying regional identity and particularity. This study classified Chuncheon-related records by period and type, reviewing a wide range of sources such as literary materials, old maps, photographs, newspapers, inscriptions, and old documents. In particular, records from the Japanese colonial period, along with modern newspapers and photographs, were found to be crucial in verifying the urban transformation and social landscape of Chuncheon. A review of previous studies reveals that research on the local history of Chuncheon has been actively conducted since the 1990s, producing significant achievements in various fields such as studies on Maekguk, the Righteous Army, regional history during the colonial period, clan documents, and modern urbanization. However, issues remain, including insufficient organization of materials, limited accessibility, and the lack of digital archives. Accordingly, this study suggests the need for systematic and continuous investigation and cataloging of records, translation projects to enhance accessibility, the compilation of a comprehensive local history, and the reinforcement of research manpower and support systems. Such efforts will be essential not only for establishing the identity of Chuncheon but also for deepening the study of Korean history.
