Abstract
Korea, which has entered an aging society, is facing the problem of senior jobs. Japan is a country that experienced aging earlier, but has achieved significant results through government-level measures. In this paper, we visited the Employment Welfare Plus Center, which is promoting job creation projects for seniors including the middle-aged, to understand the employment status of seniors. Based on this, we examined employment services in Korea and Japan through Japan's Hello Work, which is similar to Korea's, and then suggested improvement measures that could be helpful to the country and society in the aging society. Improvement measures include legislating the extension of the retirement age to 65, producing a handbook for employment guidance for seniors, and introducing a four-day workweek. In addition, since activating employment for seniors requires proactive participation from companies, incentives should be provided to companies or institutions that hire seniors, and related budgets should be expanded. In other words, employment for seniors means economic independence, which helps overcome poverty, and socially, it also helps reduce suicide rates by providing a channel of communication with the outside world.
