초록
Gu Yan-wu, a descendant of a prominent family, was given a time-honored mission in order to overcome the difficult situation of a transitional period, called the end of Ming and the beginning of Qing, from a Confucian ideology position and practiced the mission. In the face of the collapse of the nation, he could not go from a liberal scholarship to immersion into personal discipline or philosophical affairs. Therefore, his study was, above all, a practical study for the awakening of the people. At the heart of the academic discipline was practical use for people-awakening. His philosophy of thought was also based on "utility theory". His utility theory was revealed in the pursuit of the social and temporal effects of literature, as if literary work is to be profitable under heaven. The next was the "Trends of the times", insisting that the content and form of literature should change as the age changes. The following was linked with the complaints about the retro literature at that time, and pursued the truthfulness of literature. He also argued that creativity in literature should be pursued to oppose imitation. All of his poems can be said to be works that fully realized his own theory of literary creation. He tended to admire simplicity and essence, but to neglect beautiful writing. Though the theme of the poem is narrow and the form is almost unchanged and there are some periphrastic expressions due to political reasons, as his character was revealed in the poem, his poetry was recognized as the greatest poetry of his age by Pan De-yu and Xu Shi-chang and etc, and many people like his poetry the most.
